When to see an Astrologer: Anxiety
Don’t see an astrologer if you are looking for some good news to make your fear of the future disappear. That’s a recipe for disaster.
Fear of the future it’s entirely understandable, especially now, in the context of world events. Persistent anxiety may not feel nice, but actually there is nothing you need to fix. It is a healthy, even sacred, response to the personal and existential crises we all face on a daily basis.
Mindfulness, meditation, prayer, yoga, nature, journalling, therapy and a multitude of other wellness practices; all are helpful if we are to manage our fears and keep things in perspective. That is known. Anxiety can then enliven and deepen our relationship with our soul. Ancient and modern spiritual traditions help us build resilience and equanimity in the face of change. When something happens we are then able to sail through it calmly, connected to the heart and soul, not to some fake or constructed positive attitude. Positive affirmations only work if you have faith in them, if you feel them deeply.
The spiritual practice that connects you to the source, to your soul, to your personal, internal divinity, is the medicine that will ultimately restore your inner peace. A good astrologer should guide you in that direction if you are not already heading that way.
The persistent, internal, gnawing anxiety that seems to have no cause, or has too many causes, is on another level. I know that feeling well and I know how it feels to be overwhelmed by it. Go to a therapist, a coach, a guru, a minister or a doctor for help with that, as well as an astrologer. You need all the help you can get. It’s all too easy to get hooked on a negative downward spiral, especially if you have unresolved trauma of your own, or if you feed your fears on bad-news stories. It can be addictive and seductive.
An astrologer can help you see what’s really going on. An understanding of current cycles and forthcoming transits and how to navigate through them will bring objectivity, awareness and acceptance. Some things can be changed, some cannot. A birds-eye view of your situation, past, present and future, raises consciousness and helps you stay grounded in the present.
An astrologer who sugar-coats the potential impact of a future transit or tells you what you want to hear is not an astrologer. An astrologer will not lie or gloss over the big transits on the horizon. There are always silver linings in the direst of situations, there is always choice and free will within the good news or bad news and a reading will present opportunities to take advantage of them.
An astrologer can help you reframe your perspective in terms of the gift being offered rather than what you lost. Relax your grip on the wheel of fortune, because as everyone knows the stuff you think will bring you joy, security or peace of mind, quite often leads to yet more fear and anxiety. The last thing you need is to be pulled around in repeating cycles of loss without ever understanding how to let go.
Find an astrologer who you resonate with, has a spiritual practice at the foundation of their practice, and who recognises you as the divine and eternal spirit that you are.
