NEW MOON IN LEO
29 JULY 2022
5.54 AM (NZT)

The Sun is in the sign of the lion, its home sign, and along with the Moon makes a very supportive angle to Jupiter in fire. This is an excellent start to Leo season, as we move away from Cancerian influences towards more sunny, solar themes. However, as August get’s underway there’s stormy weather on the horizon.

The Sun is powerful in Leo. It lights up the ideals we aspire to, it is encouraging and inspiring, and on a good day is magnanimous, dramatic, and generous. In its warm glow, we are less sensitive than we were a week ago and are more optimistic, confident, and hopeful. If you have a solar figure in your life, someone you admire like a boss, a parent, partner, or mentor then a sense of largesse is flowing into your relationship and cementing bonds. Jupiter brings out Leo’s best qualities under this superior trine.

Jupiter

The trine, even with Jupiter retrograde, magnifies the feeling of increase, of new horizons and possibilities. There is plenty of creativity too, and a sense that big things can be achieved with support from people higher up. The bold, visionary leadership we are looking for could show up now. Jupiter also represents themes of law, ethics, royalty, and religion, which are emerging at the start of this lunar cycle. Announcements or judgments from thrones or other high places are possible.

Venus

Venus is the sign ruler of Mars, Uranus, and the north node, and while in Cancer she can be tough and tenacious, especially concerning the things she cares deeply about; home and family for example. Our homes, our comforts, and things dear to us. Are the women coming into power going to stand up for us, the people?

Uranus and the North Node

There has been a lot of debate about this conjunction among astrologers. Anything involving Uranus is unpredictable, it is, after all, the archetype of change and disruption, and the symbol of rebellion and radical ideas. The north node will magnify Uranus, and Mars will trigger it.

The conjunction will perfect on 1 August (NZT) and last for a couple of days and care is needed as it is the ultimate combination for accidents that might have long term consequences.

The new Moon squares its nodes at the same time, which is especially bad timing for investments and new starts. This is not a good new moon for planting.

Another clue is to think about what was happening last May, eclipse season, for you personally and in the wider community, and beyond that, on the global stage. This is part of an eclipse narrative with the next episode due in November. The nodes are powerful turning points for humanity, a new chapter begins as we turn the page.

Mercury

The Moon and Mercury are square to Mars, just hours after the new Moon. This is a malefic configuration, which also looks reactive and argumentative. A fixed-sign T-square with Saturn then emerges bringing the parties into an outright disagreement, a stalemate or an impasse. Mercury in Leo speaks boldly, and with dramatic flair, but can also be boastful and vain. We do not need fluffy egos right now.

Mars

As Mars moves through the conjunction with Uranus and the north node from the new moon through August, it will trigger a sequence that will affect the rest of the chart.

Mercury in Leo squares Mars, Venus is sextile Mars, then Mars squares Saturn on the 8 August, sextiles Neptune on the 11 August, and Trines Pluto on the 14 August, before squaring the Sun and moving into Gemini on 21 August.

A chain of events is set in motion, but perhaps we won’t hear about it, or understand it until Mars moves into Gemini, the sign of media and communications. Because of its retrograde cycle, Mars will stay in Gemini a very long time, until the end of March 2023.

Before then, however, the Full Moon in Aquarius on 12 August joins Saturn and places the Sun and Moon in a T-square with Uranus, the nodes, and Mars, separating. This is once again bringing the heavy and restrictive influence of Saturn against the radical and rebellious Uranus energy, which has been the theme of the year.

This will be covered in my next blog, but in the meantime, pay attention to the fixed signs in your chart. What planets are there? What houses do they occupy? Where are the fixed-sign rulers in your chart? These are the areas of your life where you can expect to see the most change.

Venus

Finally, I want to mention Venus in Cancer again. She will trine Neptune in Pisces on 8 August and then oppose Pluto on 9 August. This is an especially powerful and spiritually resonant alignment, coinciding with the 2022 Lions Gate portal date on 8 August. If you want to know more about this special day, you might find this article helpful.

Through chaos and turmoil, the excitement of change, and the pressures of everyday life, we can take a moment to ground ourselves in beauty and gratitude. The 88 Lion’s Gate Portal is the perfect time to manifest your heart’s desire and relinquish your fears.
