The second full moon in Aquarius closes off the Leo chapter for this year with a dramatic flourish. The intensity of fixed sign energy is likely to manifest through Uranus, now stationing in Taurus, and will be followed up by a radical shift in our perspectives as the Sun ingresses into Virgo.

The categorical imperatives of fixed signs will shift into softer, mutable possibilities. With so much activity occurring simultaneously we can expect to be confronted with complex situations and challenges.

In my last blog post I wrote about the Leo and Aquarius archetypes (read it on my blog here) so here we are again wondering how this particular chapter will end.

The full moon offers us a last opportunity to celebrate the qualities of Leo that we all know and love; courage, heart-centred empowerment, passion, brave deeds, inspired action with our hearts and minds as one, with our will and intention inspired as if by a divine purpose or our highest ideals.

The strong, vibrant Leo Sun illuminates us from within. It lights up our destiny, our soul’s code. What inspires you? What is your heart’s desire? When we drop into the wisdom of the heart, breathe deeply and find the stillness of presence there, then we can make tough decisions, meet challenges and resolve conflicts in alignment with our destiny. We put our egos to one side and act from the heart; with wisdom, authenticity and integrity. We can feel supported and warmed by the golden glow of the Sun in our heart of hearts.

With the fullness of the moon in Saturn-ruled Aquarius however, we are also likely to see the dark side of Leo on display: power-grabs, pomp and ceremony with no substance, entitlement and vanity, grandiose but hollow gestures, disgraced celebrities and pride followed by a fall. The old king may die or the young king may lose his crown. Either way, the people will not be fooled into believing in false gods anymore.

Jupiter and the Moon

Jupiter is part of this story too, but retrograde as if a reluctant arbiter. He is not as magnanimous in Aquarius as he usually would be, because Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Saturn demands adherence to a harsh ideology. Jupiter is concerned with law, governance and the beliefs and principles of culture.

In Jupiter’s oppositional position to the Sun, the shadow side of Leo could blow up. The reaction is out of all proportion to the action, or it is over-confident, or egos conflict over territory, who is right and which side you are on. Should our beliefs divide us this way? Or is it time to put down our weapons and ask if they still serve us?

Uranus Stations Retrograde

The radical, rebellious and impulsive energy of Uranus is intensified as he stations and turns retrograde on the Friday before the full moon. At the same time Mercury and Mars are conjunct in Virgo and form a tight trine to Uranus.

There are many nuances to this alignment, but if I were to pick only one I would say that Uranus is a swift and merciless god that has found a voice, a very loud one. Mercury is strong in his domicile Virgo, and he has a body-guard for protection, Mars. Mercury is the mouthpiece, the spokesman, telling us to wake up, it’s time for a revolution; in the way we think, the way we work and how we take care of the earth.

The earth signs Taurus and Virgo require a practical approach with thoughtful and considered responses and attention to detail. Subject-matter experts may not have the answers we need or if they do, are they still relevant? There is work to do in the areas of health, medicine and small animals. Radical alternatives should be included in the way we do things, nothing is too extreme and the picture is changing very fast. We need to adapt.

On Monday the Sun closes the chapter on Leo and turns the page. A new story begins, the story of Virgo with its modest, grounded intentions. With all the sound and fury of Leo, have we been hearing what Mercury is telling us? The directives are now clear; pay attention to your health, clean your house, listen to your body.

Virgo people love work, order and tidiness. They are industrious and busy, they are the doctors and nurses, the surgeons and vets, the scientists, researchers and data analysts. Virgo month may offer us some surprising truths under the theme of health and wellness as these critical developments unfold in the months to come.
