FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN / 14 JULY 2022 /6.35 AM NZT

The Sun and Mercury are co-present in the Moon’s silvery temple, Cancer. Meanwhile, the Moon opposes the Sun and applies to Pluto in Capricorn, the sign of the Sea-Goat, and Saturn’s domain. The Moon is in its detriment, in other words, far from home, and Mercury is burnt up in the Sun’s rays. How do we interpret these full Moon themes?

If the Moon stands for the mood of the people, our environment, our everyday lives, our day-to-day cares and worries, it looks rather like we are shouldering more responsibility, more restrictions, and more concerns. Capricorn Moons are austere, yet enterprising, and resourceful.

The Moon

This practical and hardy Moon, however, can be harsh. This is the detriment. We must harden up, hide our feelings, be stoic. There is a devilish, antagonistic mood beneath the surface, and as the Moon bumps up against Pluto things could turn ugly.

This is a sensitive spot too, the late degrees of Capricorn, going back to early 2020 with Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto conjoining here. As Mars squared Pluto from Aries recently we saw the unleashing of yet more fear and terror, so we are unfortunately very familiar with it.

In my last post, I mentioned about our soul growth as reflected in Plutonian themes. The courage to transform and evolve, to overcome fear, to be reborn. Choosing not to devolve into fear, doubt and uncertainty. The full Moon will trigger this theme again, with potentially more catharsis, more release, more digging and dredging up from the bottom layers. Collectively we seem to need this, and while it is not so pretty, ultimately it is healthy.

The Sun

Looking at Cancer themes again; home, family, safety, security, creature comforts, sea creatures, the ocean, the sacred feminine, nurturing, sustenance, fertility, birth, pregnancy, the fluid beauty of our mother, heritage, and homeland, or motherland. We are asked to aspire to a kinder, more humane world, to give birth to something huge. A new earth.

Mercury

Mercury here is sweet, shy and poetic under normal circumstances, but in the harshness of the Sun’s rays, it has shut down altogether. It looks broody, moody and melodramatic, tearful, nippy, and snippy.

All the emotional intelligence of Mercury in Cancer, its tides of feeling, are gathered up in the Sun and released in a tsunami of emotion in the days around the lunation. Be ready to offer support.

Then Mercury is Cazimi on the 17 July. Cazimi, that power point, the heart of the Sun, which lasts for only a day. Truth, spoken from the heart, from the King’s knee. Perhaps a revelation, perhaps a happy family announcement? Feelings finally articulated that have been too raw to express?

Mercury’s trine to Neptune and opposition from Pluto complicate matters. A tide of intensity? A release of vitriol? It hurts in those tenderest of vulnerabilities. Capricorns enjoy a little sarcasm, black humour and irony. They are the horns on the goat. Be kind, even if it seems too sentimental for the cynical Sea-Goats.

Uranus and Neptune

The other aspects in this lunation are a net of sextiles and trines in earth and water signs, making the whole chart lopsided. Uranus is sextile to Sun/Mercury and trine to Moon/Pluto. This whole Taurus part of the chart is a hot potato.

The Uranus/Saturn square that has been simmering in the background since 2020 is destabilising everything. It is the chaotic subtext that we have all had to learn to live with, building intensity again, to its near-perfection later this year. Radical earth love, incredible innovations, and miraculous liberations are happening now.

So the full Moon triggers the brittle and unstable currencies, inconsistent supply lines and unpredictable resources. These are the symptoms of ideologies of greed, the materiality of fixed-earth. On the collective level, Uranus may force us to confront our materialistic values, but change is unlikely to come smoothely.

The other sextile/trine comes from Neptune in Pisces; sextile to the earthy Moon and trine to the watery Sun. It supports artistic beauty, spiritual connection and dreams of a better world, the elevating performance, the glamour and the limelights of this euphoric looking ensemble, where our hopes and longings reside. Art that is visionary and elevates us all.

Venus

Venus, who is ascending, becoming more visible, larger and more beautiful, is still in Gemini and making a square to Neptune. Venus, the bright and morning star, is much more friendly with Saturn, perfecting a lovely air trine at the same time as the full Moon. Reality, and the realm of rational thought, elegant ideas or profitable tech solutions are likely, but it seems tinged with disappointment too. Maybe too hopeful? Too pie-in-the-sky?

Remembering Venus is the domicile ruler of Taurus; where Mars, the north node and Uranus reside. She is keeping relationships objective and rational, insisting on boundaries, keeping your promises and commitments. She won’t be impressed with cry-baby moods.

Venus in Gemini is the social butterfly. She wants more interesting relationships. Deep down, she also wants connection and intimacy, but doesn’t show it while she is in Gemini. Mars seems to be asking for a more simple, uncomplicated love too. In Taurus he is more passive, accepting, and reliable.

Venus moves into Cancer on 18 July. This is sentimental, gorgeous and cuddly. Our domestic gods and goddesses, and our nesting urges, require attention now, so does nutrition for beauty and wellness. Nostalgia and sitting quietly with our dear ones, reminiscing and imagining.

Also on 18 July however, Mercury opposes Pluto then moves into Leo on 20 July, arousing tension, debates and arguments, and divisive viewpoints, then becoming more bossy, fiery and dramatic after its ingress. Somewhere amongst it all there is a shift in perspective.

The Sun perfects its opposition to Pluto on 20th July, followed by its ingress into Leo on 23 July. The Sun in its golden temple, the king on his throne and now co-present with Mercury, but Mercury is still combust. The warm rays of the Sun are glorious, but we still cannot think straight or see clearly.

The Moon transits Taurus, triggering Mars, then Uranus, then the North Node from 21 to 23 July. This is a volatile few days, however the Moon is exalted here so it could easily be the awakening, the innovation, or the breakthrough you have been waiting for. Also look for a preview of what the north node/Uranus/Mars configuration will bring us on the collective level. Certainly the threshold of an evolutionary portal.

On the 25 July Mercury in Leo perfects a trine to Jupiter in Aries, as Venus in Cancer makes a square to it the following day. The fiery masculine energy is at odds with the softer, receptive mood, especially when the Moon conjoins Venus in the sign of its domicile on July 27.

Jupiter is stationary, almost retrograde, and the station has been intense in Aries. Will compromise and diplomacy have a chance to replace the bold, reckless and self-righteous?

With Mercury combust during these complex configurations we have an opportunity to talk less, think less and listen more. We can choose to let go of our attachment to ideology, beliefs, and opinions, especially the divisive ones, and find unity through diversity.
